Morocco Surf trip 2023

A few photos from my little winter escape to Morocco recently. I have been to Morocco 5 times now and it’s one of my top favourite destinations for an easy surf trip in to warmer waters and sunshine.

Since the 60’s Morocco has been a popular destination for European surfers looking to escape the cold winters and go in search of sun, warm water and epic righthand points. Not only are there plenty of waves to find along it’s 2500 kilometres of coastline, Morocco also offers a unique African culture and has always been an inspiring destination for photography.

My partner and I usually go for a road trip in search for waves but this winter I went on a girls trip and we stayed around the Imsouane area. This little coastal village changed so much since I first visited ca 20 years ago! There was only a fishing harbour and one shop, no accommodation, so we always ventured there for a day trip from Taghazout to surf the point. Now it developed into a little town with plenty of accommodation to choose from, restaurants, cafes and hundreds of camper vans parked up on the seafront escaping the cold European winter. Unfortunately, it made the lineup so busy that the ‘Magic Bay’ is also called ‘the Circus’ by the locals. I still had some epic waves, it just meant getting up early and paddling out in the dark or hope for a bigger swell when the surf schools don’t rock up and the less experienced surfers get washed down the point.

I still love this quirky town with it’s friendly locals, stray cats chasing dogs chasing donkeys around. What an epic trip! Thanks for everyone involved for making it extra special!

So here you go, just a few of my holiday snaps ( a few i phone images included)…
