There’s something really beautiful about an elopement. I just love capturing this style of intimate wedding. Just me, the couple and a celebrant (maybe even their dog would come along) feels so special.

And I’m pleased to observe in the world of weddings, elopements have become a rising trend, offering couples a more intimate and personal way to say “I do.”  As a Devon and Cornwall Wedding and ElopementPhotographer, we have many beautiful locations to choose from for that kind of wedding…

Capturing the essence of these private celebrations requires a unique set of skills and a keen eye for detail. As it is harder to stay in the background to just observe and capture the day as it unfolds like I do at bigger weddings. It’s just the three of us and I’m obviously there capturing it! But I still try my best to keep it all natural and easy flowing with not too much awkward posing involved.

Before the special day I always take the time to connect with the couple and understand their vision for the elopement so that I can tell their story in the most intimate of detail. A meeting in person is highly recommended but if that’s not possible we at least discuss the details via an online meeting.

Anita and Alan bought their adorable rescue dog with them, who was also a very well behaved ring bearer. Sadly we had to leave him behind on our venture to the beach as it was a very hot day, but we managed to take some photos of the three of them at the beautiful grounds of Lower Barns. I love this venue and Mike and Janie always make me feel so welcome! Micro Wedding at Lamorran Gardens, St Mawes, Cornwall // Sarah & Alex

Sarah and Alex were married at Lamorran Gardens in beautiful St Mawes in Cornwall. These stunning and unique gardens give you a feel of somewhere tropical here in Cornwall especially on a sunny day. I love photographing intimate weddings there as the backdrops are truly unique plus you are not far way for a little excursion to add some beach portraits to your collection.

Cornwall Elopement Photographer at Knightor Winery // Sam & Howard

Sam and Howard tied the knot on a sunny day start of August at Knightor Winery. They only brought 6 guests along with them for an intimate and relaxed day in Cornwall. I love capturing days like this, they are so personal and even if I just have just spend 4 hours with lovely pair I felt I was a little part of it. Great to work alongside talented and super nice Sean Hodge Wedding Films. Always a pleasure to work as a team.

Elopement Photography at Lusty Glaze Cornwall // Martin & Becky

Martin and Becky decided to keep their wedding low key and escaped to Cornwall for a few days to have an elopement at Lusty Glaze. Just the two of them and their Pug ‘Jimmy Mac’ who happened to be the main character of the day. It’s always a pleasure to shoot weddings and elopements at Lusty Glaze. This private little cove surrounded by cliffs is one of the most picturesque beaches in North Cornwall, the perfect setting for a beach wedding. Countless beautiful backdrops and wide open space to work with for natural wedding photos.

Cornwall Elopement Photography at Pengelly Retreat // Sue & Andrew

Sue and Andrew’s elopement at Pengelly Retreat was truly magical! Let’s just start with this location, a stunning luxury lakeside Cabin and Yurt tucked away in a quiet valley with romantic, wild gardens, a flowing stream, meadows, secret gardens and lakes to explore. It is the perfect venue for a small wedding or a run away elopement in a secret idyllic place. My jaw dropped with excitement when I had a stroll around the grounds before the ceremony to make a plan for backdrops. They are endless, so many beautiful corners to discover here for photography! Truly inspiring and not just that, I want to spend a weekend here now to unwind and relax…love, love, love it! I will definitely keep my eyes open on upcoming Yoga retreats there…

And then there is this beautiful couple, the bond and love they have for each other is spell binding. They just celebrated in a small circle including Sue’s son, daughter, her partner and a beautiful Saluki to celebrate the day with them. It was a beautiful ceremony to witness held by the lovely Sabine from Perfect Day Ceremonies. They had chosen two different locations for the ceremony, the first part including the sand ceremony by the lake and the the second including the vows on a bridge near the secret garden. I felt like a was watching a romantic movie and had to hold back tears of joy, so beautiful!

After the ceremony we had a stroll around the grounds for photos. Sue and Andrew even ventured on a little boat ride! The picnic was served in the tipi tent and beautifully decorated by Phoebe from Piccolo Weddings who also made sure the day was running smoothly and a pleasure to work with.

I left mid afternoon and felt I had just visited a magical world where two individuals celebrated theur life and love for each other. Sue and Andrew, what an honour to document your truly special day, thanks again for having me there! Not long now for the final set of your photos. But for now, here is a little taster.

Elopement Photography at Lusty Glaze // Charlie & Dan

Charlie and Dan had an elopement at Lusty Glaze mid July followed by a picnic on Porth beach with a small group of their closest family and friends. A relaxed day without all the hype of a big wedding but yet so very special. I loved capturing their small wedding and I’m super pleased the weather played part for their beach picnic!

Cornwall Micro Wedding Photography at Burncoose House // Catherine & Stewart

Catherine and Stewart had a small early spring wedding at Burncoose House in Cornwall. It was my first visit to this stunning venue. A stylish manor house surrounded by acres of stunning landscaped woodland gardens, perfect for photos. The house is available for exclusive hire only, so the garden and house is yours for the day offering complete privacy. The pair only booked my elopement package, which is ca 2-3 hours pf coverage and just enough to cover a micro wedding like this if you’re not bothered about telling the story of the day and just want the ceremony and a few images after covered. Well, they got lucky as I arrived early and got a few sneaky prep photos in… It was a beautiful warm spring day and we took some great shots on our walk through the woodland gardens…

Cornwall Elopement Photographer at Tremenheere Sculptured Gardens // Nuala & Daniël

Nuala and Daniël opted for a runaway wedding at Tremenheere Sculptured Gardens in Cornwall. This beautiful garden on the South Coast is is a real Cornish Gem. You could believe you are somewhere on a tropical island, so beautiful! Nuala and Daniël were blessed with a relative mild and dry day for December so they had an outdoor ceremony in the Pagoda on top of the hill overlooking St Michael’s Mount, which was wrapped in a mystical mist that day. It really was a fairytale elopement wedding and you wouldn’t believe it was Winter!

Micala & Kevin // Lower Barns Cornwall Elopement Photography

I do love an elopement wedding, they are so special and intimate, even better if it’s at one of my favourite Elopement venues Lower Barns Boutique Bed and Breakfast on the Cornish Southcoast!

Micala and Kevin decided to have a true ‘runaway wedding’ with just the two of them and didn’t tell their family and friends until the next day. The Ceremony was held in the cosy ‘Love Shack’ , it started off quite drizzly, but when the weather brightened up we ventured to Caerhays beach for some couple photos. The rain stopped, but it couldn’t have been windier, I love a bit of wind though as it makes the images more dynamic and can add a bit of drama. Just before we headed back, the sun came out just for a couple of minutes and added some great light for the last few photos! I think it’s a great set and the two were so natural in front of the camera considering they don’t like their photo taken..

Micala and Kevin, I hope you had a fab evening after I left and you got to use the hot tub a little more ;-)

Elopement Photography at magical Lowerbarns in Cornwall // Kourtney & Mike

Kourtney and Mike eloped to Cornwall in the stylish Lowerbarns on September the 22nd this year. Unfortunately it was one of those Cornish ‘Mizzle’ days but it didn't stop them from having a blast on their wedding day. Equipped with umbrellas we braved the rain and went for a photoshoot tour around the eclectic grounds of this beautiful Bed & Breakfast. The photo opportunities here are plenty, there are quirky backdrops around every corner and it really doesn't matter if the weather doesn't go to plan, this place is truly magical! Even more so with the wood burner crackling away.

Kourtney planned this elopement since a year and collected some lovely personal details: her parents run a lobster farm in the United States, so Mike’s tie had a lobster pattern and we even found a great backdrop to integrate her heritage for a couple of shots! The rings had a personal message to each other engraved, which was a surprise on the wedding day, although it took Mike a while to figure out what the message read as the engraving was so small ;-) I’m not sure what it said, but it caused a lot of giggle..

Kourtney and Mike you were wonderful, I feel blessed that I had the opportunity to spend your special 'hideaway' elopement wedding with you.
