Moments from Small Weddings and Elopements in Cornwall // A Lower Barns feature

There are many reasons why I love capturing small weddings and elopements. They are so personal! With a small wedding, there is time for you to be with each other, time to share the moment rather than being distracted by your guests. With elopement weddings, instead of 10 minutes of portraits, you can go for a wander for hours, take time out, do whatever you want, choose a preferred location, maybe even a favourite beach nearby. Capture the story of you.

There are many amazing venues and locations in Cornwall, but Lower Barns is one of my most visited and loved elopement and small wedding venue. Nestled in a hidden corner of South Cornwall and close to a variety of beautiful South Coast beaches to choose from for your portrait session. It is a luxury boutique retreat, a B&B with highly unique eclectic style. The lovely owners Janie and Mike designed this place over the years integrating ideas and inspiration from their past world travels. Every time I visit there is something new to discover and I always return bursting with inspiration for interior design ideas! It is a magical weekend getaway, perfect for a runaway wedding and to spend some time together. And there is even some space to accommodate a few of your guests if you want to bring some friends and family along. Oh and dogs are welcome too! I love dogs at weddings, they are always a joy to capture.

Cornwall Elopement at Lower Barns // Zoe & Stew

Zoe and Stew eloped at Lower Barns in Cornwall .They decided to have a no fuss relaxed elopement wedding and booked Lower Barns for a few days to have a quality break in Cornwall. They couldn’t have chosen a better week for it. We have been blessed here recently with plenty of sunshine and quality beach time. The ceremony was held outside in the beautiful grounds of Lower Barns. After some Prosecco and a few photos around the grounds we ventured to Caerhays beach for some more beach portraits.

Elopement Photography at Lower Barns Cornwall // Emma & Danny

Emma and Danny opted for a runaway wedding at Lower Barns in Cornwall. They left their three children, family and friends at home and decided to have a romantic weekend together here in Cornwall. What better place to choose than Lower Barns, a colourful and eclectic Boutique Bed and Breakfast hidden away in a quiet valley not far from The Roseland’s beautiful beaches.

They weren’t fussed about getting ready images, so i met them 20 minuets before their ceremony and we ventured to a nearby beach for some portraits after. I made a small collection of my favourites here…

Lower Barns Intimate Wedding // Beth & Luke

It was a true pleasure to capture Beth and Luke’s beautiful colourful intimate wedding at Lower Barns Boutique Wedding Venue early August. Every time I visit Lower Barns my travel fever gets ignited by their wonderfully eclectic interior design which is inspired by Jane and Mike’s travels around the world.

Beth and Luke invited their closest friends and family to say ‘I do’ at this colourful venue. And what a day it was! Blessed with beautiful sunshine, they really booked their visit to Cornwall at the right time.It was an honour to capture their small wedding and I’m so excited to show you a small selection of my favourites… And have a look out for the cutest flower girl in the world!

ELOPEMENT LOWER BARNS CORNWALL

Amy and Kyle are another one of my couples who showed true commitment to get married. They eloped at Lower Barns in Cornwall just 1 day before the third lock down, that’s what I call good timing! A mini winter escape with their lovely little one and playful rescue dog. It was a privilege to photograph their elopement at Lower Barns. I always get excited to visit this beautiful venue and coastline.

I agreed to be one of their witnesses so I was allowed in the ceremony room to take better images. The room is very small and during Covid restriction times I wasn't allowed in there, I’m glad we found a way around it! After the ceremony we made the most out of the lovely grounds at Lower Barns and took a few photos there, even though we had a crying baby to deal with we managed to take some lovely shots. Sadly I couldn’t join them for their ‘getting ready’ images because of new COVID restrictions, but I’m pleased the weather played it’s part and we could head to the beach for some couple portraits even though it was freezing in that northerly wind…Here is a mini preview

“We got married in January, the day before the country went into national lockdown. It was an elopement wedding so just the two of us with our 3 month old baby and our dog.
We booked everything quite late notice and I was so happy to find Alexa had availability as I had stumbled upon her beautiful work.
Alexa was really quick to reply when chatting beforehand, really friendly and accommodating and so professional on the day. She even acted as a witness so she could come into the wedding room (it is too small to fit a photographer otherwise)
I hate having my picture taken usually and find it very uncomfortable but Alexa put us at ease and really knew what shots would work well and how to work with the light. We had photos at the venue and then at the beach. We have the photos back now and we love them so much! Perfectly captured the day in a natural way like we wanted. Also not an easy task with a crying baby and a barking dog!
100% would recommend Alexa and would use her again in the future.

ELOPEMENT LOWER BARNS CORNWALL

Jody and James decided to get married in 2020 and nothing in the world could get in their way not even a pandemic. They have chosen to tie the knot at the fabulous Lower Barns in Cornwall where they rented a room with hot tub and it’s own enclosed garden. A perfect hideaway for a romantic wedding with just the two of you.

I can’t praise Lower Barns enough and I always feel blessed when a couple books me to be their Wedding/ Elopement Photographer there. The South Cornwall coastline is stunning and the venue itself offers plenty of photo opportunities.

Unfortunately Jody and James had to postpone their original date to mid December because of the November lock down restrictions and I was already booked for that date. Gladly the lovely and super talented Megan Hemsworth helped me out yet again to cover this elopement for me. I love the results ,here is a mini sneak peek…

Vicki and Sam were supposed to get married in may. Unfortunately Covid came along and they had to cancel their wedding. So they decided to get married anyway with the just two of them and didn’t tell anyone. They have chosen the fantastic Lower Barns for their ‘run away wedding’ and I’m pleased I could be their Elopement Photographer!

It’s so heart warming to see two people having such a strong bond and being so happy in these difficult times. Vicki and Sam, I’m so happy for you! You did it, and the sun came out for you for the beach photos!

Oh and Vicki’s dress is gorgeous, I love a non conventional wedding dress in a different colour than white, especially when it has a bit of sparkle added to it..

Elopement Photography Lower Barns Cornwall // Natasha + David

Natasha and David tied the knot with an elopement end of September at the colourful Lower Barns in Cornwall. They decided to have an elopement in Cornwall as a bigger wedding wasn’t possible under COVID 19 restrictions. With all their family and friends spread in between Ireland, Kent and the Midlands travel would have been too far for everyone.

I guess they got lucky! With the day starting off rainy it cleared up just in time for a photo session on Caerhays beach and how gorgeous did Natasha look! I absolutely love her dress from ‘Grace Loves Lace’, so beautiful…

Sadly I had to travel to Germany as my mum passed away after her long battle with cancer. So I asked the lovely Megan Hemsworth to cover for me. Her style is amazing and a perfect fit to my work. I edited the images so Natasha and David still received the same end product and the style of photography they have booked me for. Megan, thanks again for doing an amazing job!

“We stumbled across Alexa’s photographs whilst looking at wedding venues and knew she was the photographer for us! Her photos are candid, relaxed and brilliantly capture special memories - just what we wanted for our wedding. Alexa was lovely, incredibly helpful and really responsive, which put us at ease and confirmed that we’d chosen the right photographer. Unfortunately, due to a family tragedy, Alexa was not able to attend our wedding and had to fly home. Wedding Photography at Lower Barns in Cornwall // Sam & Andy

My first wedding back this season and I had the pleasure to visit one of my favourite Cornish venues the fabulous Lower Barns!

It has been a rollercoaster the last few months with most of my weddings postponed to next year and beyond. For most suppliers in the wedding industry 2020 supposed to be a busy year, but then the global pandemic kicked in and what was a busy year ahead crumbled! It must have been just as bad for some of the couples who had to cancel or postpone their weddings and plan all over again trying to coordinate their suppliers for new dates etc..

Well for some couples it turned out ok, they could still keep their original wedding dates when the social distancing restrictions eased a bit. One of them are the lucky Sam and Andy. I’m so pleased for them as their wedding day turned out to be as they planned for, a relaxed afternoon with their nearest and dearest and 2 dogs. They didn’t want all the fuss of a big wedding, but guess what, they had 2 wedding cakes! Don’t underestimate the importance of cake, ha, ha!

I feel blessed to have spend a few hours with them capturing it all. Here is a small collection for you, I hope you like it!

Andrea & Jack // Lower Barns Cornwall Elopement Photography

Andrea and Jack eloped to Lower Barns in Cornwall on the 22nd of may. They decided for an intimate day with just their two children and couldn’t have picked a better day, it was a scorcher! Sadly Jack picked up a bug from his little boy and felt sick, what a shame, I felt so sorry for them, with everything else being so perfect. Andrea really wanted to incorporate some of the beautiful Cornish Coast into her photos, son gladly we still made it to Caerhays beach. I just hope he felt better later in the evening to enjoy their delicious food prepared by the lovely Lower Barns team.
