Dorset Wedding at Highcliffe Castle and Sopley Mill // Kat & Ash
Kat and Ash’s epic wedding at Highcliffe Castle and Sopley Mill. Two amazing Dorset wedding venues in one day with the ceremony held at Highcliffe Castle in Christchurch and the reception down the road at the stunning Sopley Mill. A fantastic day and a great bunch to celebrate with! Here is a little preview of the day
Oh I always love an excuse to get out of Cornwall for a few days. Don’t get me wrong, I love where I live and photographing weddings here is amazing but every now and then I look forward to a little trip. So I booked myself a nice little Bed and Breakfast in Christchurch the night before this stunning Dorset wedding and made the most out of the morning exploring the town and beach. I had a late start for this one as Kat wasn’t so keen on ‘getting ready photos’. I met the lovely pair at Highcliffe Castle just before midday for their ceremony here.
Kat and her dad arrived in style in a vintage 1950’s Pontiac. I love a stylish wedding car, such a beauty! Kat and Ash had an hour booked at the castle, so we tried to make the most out of it and had a brief wander through the grounds to the cliff overlooking the sea. The pair were super keen to have a shot of the sea without climbing down the stairs to the beach. And time was limited, but we found a spot.
After our mini photo session we ventured to the reception venue just up the road. Sopley Mill is a stunning, renovated watermill surrounded on both sides by the Avon River with uninterrupted views across the water meadows and available for exclusive hire. It was my first time here and I loved it! A great place for a relaxed style wedding like Kat and Ahley’s day. With plenty of surrounding countryside it’s a good location for photos too.
Kat and Ash booked me for my relaxed style and they weren’t keen on too many posed photos which gave me plenty of time to focus on natural guest photos and to capture the vibe and essence of the day instead of spending ages on group photos. My kind of day! I really enjoyed my little trip here and love the results, I hope you like your little preview Kat and Ash…

Choosing a style you love is important, but beyond the aesthetic, have you thought about which moments from your wedding day you’ll want to relive forever?
Unposed. Unrushed. Unfiltered.
Documentary wedding photography that captures the intimacy, emotion, and quiet beauty of your day.
Moments over poses. I focus on storytelling rather than staged, artificial poses. This approach captures raw, unscripted emotions and genuine interactions as they naturally unfold, offering a true representation of the day’s atmosphere—not just how it looked, but how it felt…

It’s your day so do what you want! It’s hard I get it, guest lists, kids or no kids, are dogs welcome, should I invite that auntie and uncle I haven’t seen in years, should I hire a wedding car …But life is short and traditions are there to be broken. Do what you feel like doing and not what you think is expected!
I curated some tips to help you make the most out of your wedding day and photography…
