Congratulations Sarah&Aaron, a winter wedding @Carlyon Bay
a sunny winter wedding in Cornwall..
March/winter weddings seem to get more popular these days. Especially if the weather turns out like for Sarah and Aaron's wedding at Carlyon Bay Hotel early march. It was so sunny that we had to find a bit of shade for the group shots in the hotel gardens. If you'd like to get inspired for your winter wedding in Cornwall, I've posted some of my favourite shots of the day on my facebook page.
Vanessa&James @ 'The Old Farmhouse', Porthpean
Vanessa & James celebrated their special day 'their own way' at the Old Farmhouse in Porthpean, Cornwall
Vanessa and James celebrated their wedding in a small circle at 'The Old Farmhouse' in Porthpean on the southcoast of Cornwall. They did the legal part of their marriage at a registry office in New York, which gave them the freedom to celebrate their wedding 'their own way'.
The properties large garden was perfect for the outdoor ceremony and garden games. The giant connect four game was a favourite and I loved the surprise effect when Vanessa and James found out that the discs had portraits of themselves stuck on them! The spacious living room/conservatory served as a dining room with great seaviews. The 3 course meal was delicious and prepared by William from Pencoose Pantry, a high quality catering service. William believes in fresh food. This means using local free range ingredients from his friends who look after their animals, vegetables and minerals.
It always helps when the weather is good, but this was definitely a perfect hideaway for a small intimate wedding day.
Laura & Paul's Intimate Pagan Seaside Wedding
Laura and Paul's intimate wedding at Millook Haven Beach, a secluded hidden cove in North Cornwall
Laura and Paul love everything nature and celebrated their wedding their own way with a pagan ceremony on the beach at Millook Haven. Millook is a hidden cove lying under imposing cliffs in North Cornwall a few miles south of Widemouth Bay. It was one of the most intimate, personal weddings I photographed this year.
The lovely celebrant Leonore Newson held the most touching ceremony and it felt like she was a family member herself. The day was planned to the last detail and holy waters were collected from the famous Chalice Well in Glastonbury. The water is believed to possess healing qualities and in addition to the legends associated with Glastonbury the Well is often portrayed as a symbol of the female aspect of deity with the male symbolized by Glastonbury Tor. My highlight was when Laura and Paul combined the waters from the springs into a stout and poured it into the sea, a symbol of the divine feminine.
Just before sunset we ventured to the nearby Widemouth Bay for the couple shots. It was getting dark fast, but working with such a realxed couple and a little added flash, I love the results.
I love shooting small, intimate weddings like this. They have a very special, personal feel to them and combined with such a stunning location and lovely people, I feel blessed to play a part in it.
Shona & Mark's colourful countryside wedding @The Green, Cornwall
Shona&Mark's colourful relaxed, country style wedding @The Green House and Cottages in Cornwall...
I was meaning to post this in ages, but I had a busy summer editing all your nice weddings!
Shona and Mark celebrated their special day for a whole weekend with family and friends who traveled from far, far away. They rented the house and the 5 cottages at 'The Green House and Cottages' located in a lush green valley in the heart of Bodmin Moor, not far from the infamous 'Minions'. A hideaway perfect spot for a relaxed weekend in nature.
Shona and Mark planned a 3 month honeymoon around Southeast Asia and Australia straight after their wedding and integrated a bit of a travel theme into their table decorations. I really liked the vintage alarm clocks showing off each country's timezone. Besides Shona's obsession with sunflowers, she loves cows and wanted a picture with them! Surrounded by farmland it shouldn't be too hard to find them, but unfortunately it started raining and the food was being served. So while everyone had their wedding breakfast, I ventured out in the rain to find cows. I got lucky apart from that they started chasing me out of the field when I tried to take the photo!
The evening started pretty early with everyone joining in on the dance floor as soon as the live music started. I'm quite sure the late afternoon rain increased the bar visits and the alcohol consumption!
I'm convinced Shona & Mark had an amazing trip together as they are such a perfect match with a great sense of humour and I wish them all the best for their future together.
Sara & Scott's intimate wedding day @St Ives
Sara&Scott's intimate wedding day with just a few members of their family in St Ives, Cornwall..
Sara&Scott celebrated their special day with just a few members of their family in St Ives and show us that a 'special day' doesn't neccessarly have to be a 'big day'! They were married in St Ives Guildhall and after a few glasses of Champagne we were waiting for the sky to clear up and had a stroll through St Ives to Porthminster beach for some photos. I only stayed with them for 2,5hrs, but the day had a very special, relaxed and positive vibe to it, inspite of the rainy start! Here are a few highlights..
Andy & Carly's wedding @Lusty Glaze, a few highlights..
Andy&Carly's beautiful late September beach wedding @Lusty Glaze, Cornwall.
I met Carly just before she left the Headland Hotel with her dad to drive down to Lusty Glaze where they had their ceremony and reception. By their relaxed vibe I could already tell that it would be an amazing day to shoot. The late September day was blessed with sunshine and high temperatures and everything came together on their day. Carly and Andy were a pleasure to work with and didn't mind 'getting their feet wet' and we had a great laugh taking the portraits down the beach. They were hoping for a sunset photo since I first met them for their wedding consultation and they were rewarded: the cornish coast delivered and we had the most beautiful sunset over Newquay headland. I left soon after as I was only booked for 7hours, but I'm sure the dancing went on till late in the night... What a day!
Louise & Alex @Lusty Glaze Beach, small preview church wedding
What can I say! Louise and Alex were blessed with a beautiful sunny September day and had their reception at the stunning private beach venue Lusty Glaze. You can't get closer to the beach to celebrate your wedding in Cornwall. Louise and Alex were a real fun couple to work with and they didn't care getting their feet wet.. Here are a few images from our private couple portrait shoot on the beach.. more coming soon, I promise. I'm just really busy at the moment editing all your lovely weddings..
Congratulations Zephy & George! @Mevagissey and @Heligan Gardens, Cornwall
Zephy and George's lovely DIY wedding in Mevagissey..
1 image preview..busy, busy times editing lots of great weddings I recently photographed all over Cornwall and Devon. I promise I'll be posting more images very soon ;-)
So now the season has quieted down a bit, I can start posting all my favourite weddings from this summer, exciting times!
Zephy and George were married in Mevagissey church and had their reception in a village hall nearby. The whole day had a very personal touch to it and all the decorations were DIY. We were pleased when their caterer said we could sneak into their private garden which is basically located in Heligan Gardens. It was a much better choice for the couple photo shoot than the plain village hall field. They really went to town with the decorations and converted the hall into a lively wedding venue! I loved every minute I spend with them and their guests. Here are a few of the days highlights..
no need for second photographers...?
I've got a feeling I don't need to hire a second photographer anymore as I meet all these lovely second shooters at recent weddings ;-)
